Livingston FFIT Like

A bunch of over 35, often overweight, but extremely good looking players (guys and girls), who play football, at a questionable level, against other similar minded, but less good looking teams from around Scotland (and Berwick!) and even the odd team from abroad.

Motto: We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing. (George Bernard Shaw)

Our Mission & Vision

This team started out as Livingston’s ‘Football Fans In Training‘ continuation team to play the ‘occasional’ game. It has grown into so much more.

Some may build teams on ability, some may build them on pace, skill, and work rate. We built our team on just love of the game. We are a squad that loves to play, that loves to be involved. Our only real criteria for playing is the desire to play. Yes we want to win (and who doesn’t), yes we compete (to the best of our ability), but playing is what we are about!

Philosophy & Ethos

We CHOOSE to be part of this squad and we are all aware of the range of abilities in the squad. The better players, those more confident, those that are fitter are expected help and support the less fit, the less able and the less confident.  At our level everyone is there to play, enjoy, support and respect each other.  That respect is extended to the referees and opposition. We strive to be the best we can be and winning is about playing, not about the result.

If you join the group remember you are choosing to be part of the ethos of the group.

Want to Join In?

The club is predominantly for over 35 men and women who want to play football and have some fun, enjoyment and comradeship in doing so.

The group is aimed at inclusivity.

There is no restriction based ability. You can be awful or even mediocre or even OK.

Teams, Criterea and Training

Training

We currently train / play a a bounce game on a Thursday, at Almondvale Stadium. These sessions areopen if you are over 35, preferably over 35bmi and whilst we dont turn away great players we are mainly of average or less ability!

11 aside Games

We play on a Sunday against teams from all over Scotland of similar (mainly better) ability. We take a squad of 16 to games. You must have attended some Thursdays to be eligible and it’s on a loose rota basis. (see also cup games).

Cup Games

We have started a cup tournament. This is competitive and we pick the 16 man squad from of players available on that day. We took a vote to do it that way!

T8/T9 Games

We also play other teams in a T8/9 format – 8-9 aside games on a half pitch. The squads for these games are pretty strictly people who have done the official FFIT course and preference is given to those who don’t play the 11 aside games.

A potted History of Livingston FFIT

The first Livigston FFIT Course was in 2016 and at the end of that a number of the squad took part at a tournament in Stirling. Great fun and we all started talking about playing each other. Friendships were made with other teams that day that are still in place. Our first 11’s game was against Morton and 9 of us turned up. We got beat 5-2! defeat is never far away for us at Livingston FFIT but we play to play, if we win we enjoy it, if we lose we enjoy it slightly less but we still enjoyed it, and we keep going back for more!

Some Highlights:

We had bibs and mixed yellow tops for our first game and borrowed strips for our second. No one that was there will forget Brian Kerr’s worldie in our first game against Berwick. You had to laugh when Laura Grant put a Celtic player on his derriere when he tried to tackle him. Stevie Parris made one of the best saves I’ve seen and the opposition player was gutted as he had never scored, let alone hit a ball so well. Kevin Mohamed has a tackle agains Icelandic opposition that almost had the chap landing back in Iceland withour a plane! Great fun and many laughs!
